CILC Director

Alec Kerfoot worked in various aspects of engineering and management for over 25 years, including a time in Bolivia, where he experienced the challenges of living in a new country and learning a second language. In addition to this, he developed learning material and taught for 8 years at the college level in several job-related subjects including Communications. Most of his students were New Canadians from a variety of homelands.

Alec has been an active member of First Baptist Church for over 30 years, serving in numerous capacities ranging from church Moderator to Handyman, and often leads adult studies.

Alec and Carol retired from regular work in 2005, and now spend their time in several volunteer projects, outdoor recreation, and travel. They have a grown son and daughter, and a fine new grandson.

Daytime Coordinator / Teachers

Nada Ramsden (B.A., Cert Adult Learning, CTEFL) comes to us with a variety of work experience including geophysics, resourcing, pastoral work, and teaching of all ages from 2 years to adults. She became interested in ESL work while hosting Japanese students and has worked with children in Japan. Her work at CILC began the fall of 2004. If she’s not teaching in the afternoons you can find her doing administrative work in the CILC office. She enjoys working in the international community of CILC.  She is married with two adult children and likes hiking, gardening and reading.

Doreen Spurgeon (B.Ed, NA) has worked in the education and health fields and brings that diverse experience into her classroom. Doreen has taught in a variety of learning situations, including cross-culturally in Africa. She has been part of CILC since its beginning in 2002. Prior to teaching in the daytime classes, she gave direction to our evening children's program.
